Our Building Not in the List of Locations

I have been attempting to get any of the Stake Leadership to recognize that most of those who do think they are "creating an event" are actually scheduling events' resources, not the actual event. Stake Conferences were not appearing on Calendars (I had all appropriate calendars selected). I finally, after nearly 3 years of "pestering" demonstrated to the brethren that they could, of course, see the events (that contributed to them thinking I had something set incorrectly), their callings allowed that. However, I had a brother in good standing, with all the correctly marked calendars, demonstrate that his Calendar in LDS Tools, showed nothing for the Stake Conference weekend, as did mine and ALL other members without the leadership callings. I get a little over frustrated after serving as Stake and Ward Website Administrator for 12+ years in the Panhandle of Florida, being a user of all Church apps from their earliest releases, and serving as a Ward Meetinghouse Technology Specialist in a ward that was part of a stake that had many miles distances between meetinghouses and far from the FM Group and the Area Meetinghouse Technology Specialist. I believe it was a calling that was the exception to the rule. Having served in those callings allowed me to personally see that Calendars were set up an used properly, with occasional Leadership Training sessions to facilitate understanding of these marvelous tools. Too much verbiage - everyone has now moved on!

Living here in the Pheasant Pointe 7th Ward of the Lehi Utah Pheasant Pointe Stake, my husband serves as High Priest Group Leader in our ward. I personally watched him create an event (correctly), selecting our building (it IS in the dropdown list, but NOT on the list of Locations, found on the sidebar of the Calendar (approaching from lds.org). I see his event, clearly, on HIS iMac, iPad & iPhone. However, since I do not have a calling that has the authority, I see ZERO, NADA, NOTHING! That, of course, means that all of the members of our ward who do not have the leadership callings that give them the ability to view, will miss out on knowing about the upcoming Temple Night he posted. He will send out emails, but in the meantime, we have a problem. This is NOT a new building. As I see it, the dropdown shows our building because someone "added" it from the ward perspective. I cannot see how it was set up so, I cannot give better information here. We do not have a Ward Website Administrator, nor is there a Stake Website Administrator and those who have the rights, according to their callings, are definitely not educated in its' functions. However, that does not make our ward events, across the table of calendars, viewable to all who have selected the correct calendars. It seems to me that the ward building needs to be added to Locations by a Stake Leader, thus making it officially correctly added. If the ward event creation allows a dropdown containing the name of our building, that does signify that the FM Group did include the building, it's just not included on the stake level. I have sent screen clips to illustrate the concern to the Stake Clerk assigned to technology, the Stake Technology Specialist and the High Council assigned to Technology, with no response.

PLEASE, if anyone can assist, correct me if I am looking at this wrong, or confirm that I am seeing the problem correctly, RESPOND with some sort of help. Please note that there are very few women addressing anything technological. It has been repeatedly shown me, here in Utah Valley, not only do they NOT use the technology available, they also pretty much dismiss a female discussing anything in this arena. I was called as the Pheasant Pointe 7th Ward Meetinghouse Technology Specialist, but have not been added to the MLS correctly, as this would be considered a Stake Assistant Technology Specialist, with assignments specifically oriented to our ward only. I did view a video that stated that this calling can be for a specific ward and for females as well as males. But I can read and learn all possible without being able to get those "in charge" to do anything to untie my hands. I've served in this calling for 3 years, without being able to do much at all to further the use of these fabulous technologies.

I can only think of two things: Either the calendars have all been made "private" (which seems silly), or you haven't subscribed to that calendar. Of course, if the calendar is private, you can't see it to subscribe to it.

Just to make sure we're talking about the right things, subscriptions are "sliders". You'd need both the subscriptions (on an expanded sidebar screen) screen set as well as the checkboxes set to be able to see the events on lds.org.

Something isn't right with the locations at least as you've described it. A ward can't add a location, only the stake or the FM group. And once a location is added it should show up on both the Location drop down when creating an event and under Locations in the sidebar. If it shows up in one place but not the other then that sounds like some sort of data corruption that would have to be addressed by calling local unit support.

Just to be clear, is the drop down where you see the building under the Where section when creating a new event? Or is it under the What section?

Just to be clear, we're dealing with the 7th ward and not the SA or Spanish wards in the stake? One thing that could cause an issue is if your husband is assigned to those wards, he might have access to their calendars where you would not.

I'm also puzzled by how the location appears in the drop down but not on the left. But then, I'm not sure what happens if you're using a building that "belongs" to another stake but is shared with your stake/ward. The alternative is that the "building" has been recorded as a "room" rather than a building.

Perhaps the biggest issue on hand is that this is a user-to-user support forum. If unit leaders aren't interested in making corrections, this is not going to have a happy ending. We can only help people understand the options available to them.

Thank you for your response. You have zeroed in on the problem. Clarifying, the drop down in creating a new event, for the Pheasant Pointe 7th Ward, selecting under the Where, is how our building is seen. However, the sidebar Locations list does not include the Pheasant Pointe East Building, which houses our ward along with three others. I am positive now that our building was not set up correctly from the beginning. My husband had inadvertently only calendared the Temple Night for High Priests, just changed it to All, now it appears on my calendar and will show for all other members who are not High Priests.

I fully agree, the building is not set up properly.

Also, I simply stated MLS, because that’s what our clerks used three years ago. I am aware of the directions for adding an Assistant Technology Specialist being done through LCR. I’m not sure how current any of the leadership is regarding technology, just what hits their plate at the moment, like broadcasting for Stake Conference. They do involve me and my husband at that time (more hands get the job done in less time), but other than that, I’m a pesky gnat.

My husband is not assigned to other wards than our home ward, Pheasant Pointe 7th Ward as stated above. He did make an error, that I had not noticed him doing, of Not changing the Calendar selection from High Priests to Ward Activities. The odd thing here is that I have High Priests Calendar selected in my Subscriptions list, so why didn’t it show before -on iPad Pro, iPhone7 nor on my iMac running High Sierra macOS 10.13.2; approaching from both browsers, Safari & Chrome.

Our building has always belonged to the Pheasant Pointe Lehi Utah Stake, I just checked. The East building (the one in question here) does appear in the Where dropdown selector list, but interesting enough, no rooms, just the buildings in our Stake. The east building is not in the list of Locations, not even in the expanded view (though that wouldn’t matter, but was brought up in a response). I agree that the building has been added incorrectly, before we ever arrived here, three years ago.

A building may also exist that has not yet been turned on for scheduling. Once it is, a standard set of rooms appears that can then be adjusted for particular building needs. An administrator may need to check to see that the building is available for scheduling and that the proper rooms are set up for that use.
