Folks:
A member approached me asking how she can correct her middle name on her PB, also that her Father's name is misspelled as well.
Can this be done? If so, what do you recommend I tell her?
Thx.

Re: Patriarchal Blessing Spelling Corrections
Just a guess, but my first suggestion would be for the member to contact the Patriarch who gave her the blessing. I expect he would be the most likely person with access to the ability to update the wording in a blessing.

I can certainly ask her that; however, her Patriarch may have have passed away years ago. The woman asking this is 45 and received her blessing over 30 years ago.

Re: Patriarchal Blessing Spelling Corrections
Well, this would be an interesting situation. There's a strong likelihood her Patriarchal Blessing is a scanned image of the paperwork submitted 30 years ago, not a computer file. As such, it's not just a matter of correcting text in a computer - the image would have to be modified some way. Digital white-out if you will. This will likely leave noticeable artifacts on the image as the newly inserted text may not match what's on the image. I suppose it could be re-typed, but who is going to sign it? It would be easy enough to fix back then, but quite a bit more difficult now.TKhanson wrote: Sun Dec 05, 2021 8:27 am I can certainly ask her that; however, her Patriarch may have have passed away years ago. Assuming this member has retrieved a copy of the blessing on-line, it is already linked with her membership record. That membership record would be the source of information going forward, so the errors in the blessing are unimportant.
Personally, I'd leave it as a historical document - warts and all. Then again, maybe it is computer text and can be edited.
At this point, I'd suggest calling support and see what they say.

Another question to kindly ask her would be why this is now a big deal when it hasn't been for 30 years. It might be just a misunderstanding that the digital copy can easily be edited. Like her my electronic one is from about that long ago and is definitely just a scanned copy of the original paper copy.TKhanson wrote: Sun Dec 05, 2021 8:27 am I can certainly ask her that; however, her Patriarch may have have passed away years ago. Re: Patriarchal Blessing Spelling Corrections
Because a patriarchal blessing is primarily spoken, the transcription is secondary. Fixing spelling errors isn't something that seems like it needs to go through patriarch or Church headquarters approval. She could type her blessing into Microsoft Word or a note-taking program, correct spelling errors, and format it in whatever way is convenient for her.

I did this for mine - it was originally typed double-sided on legal size paper (and has lots of artifacts on the page and bleed-through from the typing on the opposite side) so I retyped it to fit smaller paper to keep with my scriptures and improve readability.sbradshaw wrote: Mon Dec 06, 2021 12:44 pmShe could type her blessing into Microsoft Word or a note-taking program, correct spelling errors, and format it in whatever way is convenient for her.
