Children Accounts
I am trying to create account for my 14 year old daughter to access seminary things. Each time I go to create an account I get an error message that reads "There was an issue processing your request. Please try again later." It's been two weeks of trying with the same message.

Re: Children Accounts
It would appear from the dates of the 2 posts above, that perhaps these account creations are being attempted on a Sunday?
To regular users/observers of the Tech Forum, this might indicate the that the cause is the fairly regular occurrence of the servers being overloaded on a Sunday.
Have either of the 2 posters, since successfully created the accounts on another day of the week?

Re: Children Accounts
I also tried to create an account for my 13 year old son. It gave the same error. I thought also that the servers were being overloaded on Sunday. So I tried today (Monday); same error occurred. I was able to successfully create accounts for my 11 year old and 8 year old today, but no luck with my 13 year old. I'd appreciate any help.

Re: Children Accounts
When you try to create an account for a child, it checks to see if there is already an existing account based on the first name, last name, and email or sms you entered. If it finds a match to an existing account (maybe it was created at a youth activity, but never associated with their mrn/birthdate), the process will fail with the generic message you see today. In that case, you should visit https://account.churchofjesuschrist.org/recovery and enter the email/sms you were trying to use when creating their account. This will walk you through the process of recovering their existing account. At the end, you can see what the username is and/or change the password of that account which should allow you or the child to sign in as that account. Once signed in with that account, you should go to Account Settings (https://account.churchofjesuschrist.org/membership) and add their mrn/birthdate to that account. Their account when then show up the next time you visit the Children Accounts page on your account as their parent.
Alternatively, you could also delete the child's existing account once you successfully recovered it and are able to sign in with it on the main Account Settings page.
Less recommended, would be on the Children Accounts screen where you are trying to create an account for them, use an alternate email or sms when trying to create and then the create will work, but now they will have two accounts and potentially not the correct email/sms for them - so that's less recommended.
We're working on updating the error message a parent receives so this is more clear in the future.

Re: Children Accounts
We are having the same problem trying to create an account for our 14 year old son. I've tried it on the front end (create account) and also once I'm logged in (as me) and we go to children accounts>create account. (He does not have an account currently.) When we go to type in a user name, a script takes over the process and re-directs to the error page that says, "Church Account is experiencing technical difficulties. Please try again later" that can be found here: https://account.churchofjesuschrist.org/systemError
We've emailed support and they replied with zero help. We've tried three different browsers, two different computers, and waited a day to see if the server was overloaded.
Let us know if someone figures this out. Thank you!

We're having the same problem. The system generates an error as soon as you type in a proposed username. The email address and mobile phone fields are still blank. There's something broken with the script that checks to see if usernames are available. We've been trying for four days now.olie1212 wrote: Sat Jan 22, 2022 11:28 am We are having the same problem trying to create an account for our 14 year old son. Re: Children Accounts
That does seem to be the case. If I go to the general sign-up screen using incognito, and input what should be a very unique user name, after a brief pause, I get "user name not available" and then immediately shifted to a "Church Account is experiencing technical difficulties" page.kerrybrown wrote: Sun Jan 23, 2022 1:12 pm There's something broken with the script that checks to see if usernames are available.

Re: Children Accounts
It appears to be working this morning as far as I can tell. It's possible one of the back-end dependant services was down. Can you check again? If it's still an issue, what username were you trying to trigger the error?russellhltn wrote: Sun Jan 23, 2022 3:15 pm That does seem to be the case.
