Clerk printing / bishopric involved
I remember reading that when a clerk prints a recommend that it needs to be given to a member of the bishopric and they watch as the member signs. Can anyone help me find a reference for that guidance?

Good question. There was discussion about it here. But rereading the letter, I can't find it. I know it was in passing and easy to miss, but in defining roles, a leader was to witness the member signing it.

If I remember correctly the information is on the printed recommend.

Can anyone here, holding a locally printed recommend, verify that the handling instruction is there?

On the printed sheet, the information is below the actual recommend, before cutting it out of that sheet. The recommend itself doesn’t have any instructions on it. I actually printed out and read the instructions this morning. Slipped my mind when posting earlier about this.wrigjef wrote: Sun Mar 13, 2022 4:01 pm Can anyone here, holding a locally printed recommend, verify that the handling instruction is there?
Update- I’ve just printed out a recommend. There are three instructions underneath the recommend.
Number 3 states The stake/mission leader will:
- Collect and destroy any previous recommends for the individual
- Deliver the recommend to the individual and ensure that the signs the recommend

Evidently your LCR level of access affects what communications you can see. Two of my Stake Clerk friends see a letter from December 23, 2001 but as a ward clerk I don’t see any communication on that date.
What I don’t understand is why I was able to see the communication earlier.

That’s not the one I was looking for. A stake clerk sent me a screenshot but I don’t see a way to attach it to this post. The message is dated December 22, 2001 titled “Delivering Temple Recommends to Members”.

I would think any instructions from 2001 would be superseded by the latest Handbook, which has been rewritten at least twice since 2001. A lot has changed in the past 20 years.wrigjef wrote: Mon Mar 14, 2022 5:59 am That’s not the one I was looking for. Re: Clerk printing / bishopric involved
If there was an instruction or direction addressing the same issue in the handbook I’d most certainly support that. In this case there is no revision of contradiction of the topic and I’m not ready to say the instruction is no longer valid, especially since stake clerks can still see it.
At this point I’m convinced that it’s a permissions issue. Either there is a problem with my account or the instruction was intentionally put under a higher level of view access.
