How to record Com. Spec. for Regional Committe calling

Post by MurdockM »

Hi,
I'm a Ward Clerk. A member of my Ward has been set apart by an Area Seventy as "Communications Committee Specialist for the Coordinating Council".

I've been told that it is my job to record his calling in LCR so that he has access to online resources for that calling.
However, I don't see even a "Communications Committee Specialist" calling in LCR. And, as a Ward Clerk I can only deal with Ward level callings anyway.

Thanks for your input.

I can't see that calling at the stake level either. Closest I have is "Communication Specialist", but that's still just a stake calling.

You could always put it in as a custom calling, but if there is anything that requires calling specific access, they won't have access to it.

I've seen a couple of similar Forum questions from people called to support Coordinating Councils, or other regional/area Church efforts. Two thoughts:

1) If there previously was a Communications Committee Specialist (or if there current are other specialists serving on that committee), it would be good for the member to contact them and ask how they access the online resources (e.g., what special calling they have). Beyond simply accessing online resources, establishing this communication with the previous specialist will assuredly help the newly-called member in lots of ways.

2) Also, whatever leader extended the calling, should have provided the member with details about what online resources they should expect to have access to, and how they should access them (including any specific calling in LCR). If the member did not receive this instruction when the calling was extended, they should contact that leader and ask that question. I know the Area Seventy set the member apart, but it may have been another leader who extended the calling.

It's interesting to know that this doesn't only happen at the local level, when we as leaders forget to ensure when we extend callings to other leaders, we take the time to make sure they are familiar with things like how to access LCR, and also what they can do specific to their calling inside LCR. Or assigning somebody like the clerk to follow-up and ensure everything works for the newly-called leader, etc. Often we essentially just leave them to figure it out themselves (guilty as charged).

That's not one you're going to be able to add from LCR. The other ones I'm seeing in CDOL where entered by a fairly central group, so working back with the Area Seventy or the person issuing the calling is going to be the correct approach.
