payment request duplication glitch

payment request duplication glitch

We are seeing somewhat rare automated duplication glitches of Member Tools Payment Requests.

I'm pretty sure one happened in June 2023. A July stake audit discovered a duplicate EFT payment to a leader, with the same receipts attached, though the images look different at first glance. At the time I couldn't figure out why I would have allowed the duplication, other than temporary illness and/or age.

Then, in late December (2023) a request by another president was duplicated twice (one after another), and a different request by the same president was duplicated once, so far. The latest duplicate remains in our request queue in case Global Services wants to review it. The doubled duplicates were deleted (one after another). Also, this leader prefers checks, over EFT's.

Outreach to Global Services eventually garnered a recommendation on recovering money (not needed), but no indication of it being a known problem. So, I'm sharing here in case others find similar glitches.

So far, incidents are limited to ward organization presidents and the Tools app'. Not sure if phone makes or models play a role.

Any possibility the requests were submitted both on the app and on LCR, or twice on the app, especially since the images look slightly different? Also, do both payments show approved by the same bishopric member?

If the images look different in a non-machine way, that would strongly point to the member submitting a duplicate.

It's possible that the system gave a uncertain response the first time so they re-did it.

Or maybe the submit button on the form to request a reimbursement didn't respond right away, so they clicked it twice, then the system added it twice?

Almost all our leaders have been avoiding LCR. Probably because they have been exclusively working from their phones.

Initial glitches tend to be poorly documented, so I don't expect the member tied to our June duplication to remember if the request was resent. I may have asked for better photos, and was given paper receipts, or I may have edited initial images to improve readability.

For the first late December glitch I understand the member resent it because of an error message associated with it. This is the request that was duplicated twice.

For the second late December glitch the member shared a screenshot, and in their queue the error message is "Missing: amount, category, purpose." However, when I processed the initial submission all that data was present.

I understand that distribution of version 5 of the app' is pending. The current version leaves me recommending leaders switch to the website.
