Open-source contributions by members

Post by jseely23 »

Hello,

Was wondering what the status was of allowing members to contribute to church tech? I saw some previous discussions on here stating that the Church made some motions towards this in the past but without a super definitive move in that direction.

As a long-time developer and user of church tech I'd love to be able to contribute, and I know many other tech-savvy active church members who would also love to contribute. It would both help users patch sharp edges faster and allow people a chance to use their skills to serve

Also interested in anything similar that exists or could be granted (e.g. allowing some gated set of users access to a subset of features, also maybe saw something related to contributing to Gospel Library?).

Thanks!

There were some efforts made to have members contribute code. Around 2007ish, I was involved and made a few tiny contributions to the directory and calendar web apps. There is some history here: viewtopic.pp?t=26052 Of course, the latter end of the thread has the more current and summarized information, this post in particular: viewtopic.php?p=261089#p261089

If I understand correctly, there is not currently anything officially done by the church.

If there were such an option available to members, this would be the first bug that I would assist in researching and fixing, as it's a most flagrant bug:
